Barbecue spices up county’s culinary choices
From Staff Reports
In the mood for something spicy and filling? A big old plate of barbecue might suit your tastes perfectly. Chances are, you can enjoy this Southern standard not too far from where you live.
You’ll be sure to get enough to eat at Spiced Right Barbeque, 5346 Lawrenceville Highway, Lilburn. Call 770-564-0355.
Don’t miss their barbecue buffet, which includes all-you-can-eat barbecue chicken and pork, Brunswick stew, baked beans, cole slaw, mashed potato and gravy, corn bread and dessert. Both lunch and dinner buffets are offered.
Of course, you might be in the mood for ribs instead. Try the rib plate, which comes with one-half slab of barbecue ribs with a choice of two sides — Brunswick stew, baked beans, cole slaw or potato salad.
The rustic charm of Hawg Bar B Que is appealing, but the food is the reason to visit this eatery. The Winder restaurant is located at 111 East May St. Call 770-867-8550.
As you might guess from the name, Hawg Bar B Que specializes in pulled pork straight from the pit. Try the pulled pork dinner, served with a choice of two sides and Texas toast. Don’t forget about the roasted corn, which is cooked in the husk.
The fried corn nuggets are a popular side. Other side dishes include French fries, fried okra, fried squash, baked sweet potato, baked beans, Brunswick stew and cole slaw.
For the sometimes-picky younger set, Hawg Bar B Que offers a menu especially for kids. It includes kid-approved standards like macaroni and cheese, hot dogs and peanut-butter-and-jelly and grilled cheese sandwiches.
The Little Barn Restaurant looks just like it sounds. It’s a little red barn — with a drive-thru — in downtown Lawrenceville at 60 East Pike St. Call 770-962-1367.
The early bird catches the breakfast at Little Barn. The restaurant starts serving at 5:30 a.m. Look for homemade biscuits topped with a choice of sausage, ham, bacon, steak, red link, chicken, tenderloin, salmon, cheese, egg or gravy. Breakfast is served until 10 a.m.
Barbecue is available at lunchtime at the Little Barn. The restaurant closes at 2 p.m. A barbecue plate comes with pork, Brunswick stew, fries and bread.
Head to Woody’s Bar-B-Q for smoked barbecue chicken, turkey, ribs, pork and beef. The restaurant is located at 2302 Main St., Snellville, in the Snellville Plaza shopping center. Call 770-972-2816.
The family-friendly eatery serves everything from salads and onion rings to barbecue and banana pudding. Trying to satisfy a big appetite?
